The Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI) at Kansas State University supports comprehensive “farm-to-fork” infectious disease research programs that address threats to plant, animal and human health. To support the Institute, the facility was designed as a venue for multidisciplinary, applied research with the primary goal of employee safety.
As one of the few facilities worldwide with the capability to support critical pathogen research on large animals in a BSL-3 and BSL-3AG environment, the BRI is known as a model biocontainment facility and includes unique laboratory, training and educational spaces. Specialized research laboratories include a small animal vivarium, BSL-3E labs, and BSL-3ag holding rooms. The building features a limestone exterior complementing the surrounding campus context.
