The Johnson County Criminalistics Laboratory demonstrates a new vision for investigative forensic research by providing law enforcement with specialized laboratories and model collaborative space. Flexible laboratories support the full spectrum of advanced forensic investigation and ring the perimeter of the daylit building core which contains offices, conference rooms and communal spaces to support collaboration.
The International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) design process and Environmental Performance Criteria were utilized as strategies to enhance building performance. The LEED Platinum facility includes ground source heat pumps, energy recovery, demand-based ventilation, high efficiency lighting, and photovoltaic power resulting in a building that operates 48% more efficiently than a similar baseline building.
