The Library Annex at the University of Kansas represents the state-of-the-art in library depository design, providing a highly efficient and secure archival environment. The Annex provides environmentally conditioned archival storage space for an estimated 3.2 million volumes with planned expansion for 6.4 million volumes.
Highly efficient receiving and work areas, including an enclosed receiving dock and daylit processing areas, contribute to the archive’s operational efficiency. The Annex incorporates innovative systems technology including high bay storage shelving, high-efficiency mechanical systems and a highly secure and weather hardened exterior enclosure. A film storage module was added in Phase 2 for archival storage of acetate films and negatives.
